Biology Starters are a series of 110 interactive video lessons that teach foundational  biology concepts.  Teachers can use the Biology Starters for whole-class instruction, and students can use them for interactive independent study.   Each Biology Science Starter follows the 5E instructional model:   

• Engage:  Each Starter opens with a journal/discussion topic that relates the concept to real-world experiences.  The Engage topic is an effective method of improving science literacy when used for journaling.

• Explain:  Teachers can choose the teacher-guided option to control the pace of the lesson as they read the script aloud, and students can choose the video option to view the lesson and hear prerecorded audio.

• Elaborate:  A tab located at the top of the lesson provides interactive vocabulary flashcards with built-in vocabulary assessment.  The entire Biology Starter series includes over 1000 vocabulary words that are essential to career and college readiness.

• Evaluate:  Another tab located at the top of the lesson provides a 5-question, multiple choice assessment with feedback. 

With the purchase of student accounts, students can use the Biology Science Starters for independent study, review, or remediation from any school or home computer.  The individual results of the vocabulary quiz and the summative quiz are captured by our system and delivered to the teacher for each of the 110 Biology Science Starters.
